There are times when you feel like you have the best job in the world, and I certainly felt one lucky girl a few weeks ago when Puerto Rico Tourism Company invited me to a Ricky Martin concert at Hammersmith Apollo. I may be way past my teen years, but absolutely adore Ricky Martin and his latino tunes, so this invitation could not have landed on a ‘better desk’…
On Tuesday night, Angie and Hayley from the Puerto Rico Tourism Company invited us for a pre-concert Piña Coladas and to catch up with industry friends and colleagues at a nearby pub. We then headed together to the Hammersmith Apollo to collect our tickets, and for one of the highlights of the evening – to meet Mr Martin himself! As all super stars, Ricky was running a little late, and you can imagine the excitement in the VIP lounge, with numerous re-applications of lip-gloss and hair checks! Finally the waiting was over and the smiling Ricky Martin appeared with his manager, and a rather scary looking security man. We all had a chance to exchange a few words with him individually whilst a professional photographer took photos.
Then it was time to join the rest of the Ricky fans and take our comfy seats. The concert was absolutely fantastic and the production, although simple, very energetic and Puerto Rican. As one of us commented, Ricky had not aged one bit, and was shaking his bon-bon as years ago!
Turquoise will naturally feature Ricky Martin’s fantastically diverse home island of Puerto Rico in the near future, so watch this place… and who knows, maybe you will bump into this friendly singer whilst sipping your Piña Colada on one of the beautiful Puerto Rican beaches…
