In the Maldives, there’s plenty of resorts to choose from. Each offer stunning beaches, breathtaking coral reefs and an invaluable sense of remoteness, but they all have something unique about them, too. Kanuhura Maldives is one of the newest kids on the block, re-opening in 2016 after major refurbishment. We caught up with one of our travel specialists, Jenni, who recently visited Kanuhura…

Hi Jenni! Firstly, what’s the feel and style of Kanuhura like?

It’s a fusion of modern and rustic-chic touches, with a young and fun atmosphere. It’s very friendly – everyone stops to say hello to you when you’re walking around the resort. I also love that every villa is given their own bicycles for exploring the island with.

Great! What about the rooms?

They’re really big, with gorgeous partial open-air bathrooms. The theme is quite neutral with splashes of colour throughout, which I really loved. Everyone’s room has direct beach access, while the rooms with private pools are fantastic – the pools are generously sized.

Wow, get us there now! What can you do while you’re there?

Lots! There’s snorkelling trips, spa treatments, a private dinner in the chef’s garden, stand-up paddleboarding, a Mojito-making class, fishing, tennis and you can even spend a day on a deserted island with a picnic… just to name a few!

Sounds like there’s plenty to do. You’ll easily build an appetite when you’re there…

You will. There are four restaurants at Kanuhura, as well as the Deli for sandwiches, salads and ice creams – I’d especially recommend the coconut sorbet! The main buffet restaurant is A Mano, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It has different themed nights every day, so there’s always lots of choice. Bottega is their Italian restaurant, so it’s the best place to get your pasta and pizza fix!
Kanuhura also has two deserted islands close to it and they’ve built one of the other restaurants, Drift, on the one closest to the resort. It’s just a couple of minutes’ boat ride away and is open for lunch, where you can have fresh fish and other grill choices. There’s also the option for private dining here, which is amazing for something special.
Lastly, Veli is their Asian restaurant – wow! The sushi here is incredible, as is the lobster curry. There’s also a beach bar, which is the perfect spot for watching the sunset, and a poolside bar if you fancy some lunchtime snacks.

We’re hungry now! What’s unique about Kanuhura?

The deserted islands. You can explore one of them free of charge – just bring along a picnic from the Deli. It’s the perfect place to totally switch off away from anyone else!

Sounds perfect. Who’s Kanuhura best suited for?

It’s great for younger couples, honeymooners and families. I think the chic style of the resort will really appeal to couples. The food is amazing and there are lots of private excursions for honeymooners to get away from everything, such as a day alone on a deserted island!
For families, the villas are a really good size. The beach bungalows can fit two adults and two children, the amazing two-bedroom villas offer families a bit more space. Each person on the island gets a bike to explore and the children get smaller bikes, so they’re not left out! There’s an on-site marine biologist, who can help kids better understand the ocean and all that lies beneath. The lovely kids’ club has an outdoor shaded area with a children’s pool, so youngsters aren’t inside all day – there’s activities like pirate adventures and a mini Olympics!

Thanks Jenni. Take us to Kanuhura now!
