Situated in the midst of the South Pacific Ocean, The Islands of Tahiti provides an inspiring and beautiful backdrop to the exciting events of the new surf film ‘Don’t Crack Under Pressure’ by Thierry Donard. The destination, spread over five large archipelagos, is a haven of stunning scenery and sparkling waves. Some of the most breathtaking shots of the film take place in the destination, specifically some of the finest surfing spots near Fakarava in the Tuamotu Islands, and diving within the iridescent blue waves.

For active types or those simply looking for a taste of adventure during their holiday, it’s easy to follow in the footsteps of those in the film as The Islands of Tahiti has plenty of activities on offer. Visitors will be spoilt for choice, from marine activities both above and under water, such as sailing, surfing, scuba diving and snorkelling. In the Society Archipelago the fantastic Moorea lagoon is home to a huge variety of marine life including grey, yellow and black-fin sharks, surgeon fish, moray eels and leopard rays while the lagoons of Huahine are treasure troves to be discovered, where the yellow coral at ‘Coral City’ and in the ‘Yellow Valley’ is a key attraction.

Tahiti is regarded as one of the best destinations in the world for taking to the waves with a surfboard. From May to November, the magnificent waves at Teahupo’o on Tahiti Iti’s west coast attract the expert surfers and Teahupo’o is host to the annual Billabong Pro Surfing competition in August, a key event on the pro surfing calendar.

For a gentler, whilst still exhilarating, surf experience, Papara or the Taapuna channel further up the west coast, from November to March, and Papenoo on the east coast, offer quality surfing conditions. The east coast of Tahiti is also well-known to surfers from all over the world.

Back on dry land, travellers can explore the islands’ rich and varied landscapes by trekking, hiking, rock climbing and canyoning, or for a different perspective try a helicopter ride or horseback tour.
