It’s September now in the UK, and we all know what that means; we’re approaching autumn, and shortly after that will be winter. It’s not a thought we want to think about when we’re still hoping for a few sunny weekends, but the last summer bank holiday is behind us and now we have to plan our escapes a little bit more strategically.
If you are thinking about an escape this winter to warmer climes, have I got a destination for you! That’s New Zealand, not formerly considered a desirable destination but now in demand year-round, thanks to its ski slopes in the winter and beaches and hiking in the summer. Plus, New Zealand is a food and wine paradise, with a side of adventure.
We love New Zealand here at Turquoise, and so I’m pleased to be spotlighting two amazing resorts this Friday.
- Eagles’ Nest, Russell – This secluded paradise is located just minutes away from Russell in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands. It contains just five solitary villas, all with casual but luxurious, stylish interiors and surrounded by gorgeous tropical islands. Each villa is designed for relaxation, with a well-equipped gourmet kitchen and private chefs arranged for those who would rather not cook. Your villa comes with French champagne and plenty of breakfast. The estate is surrounded by walking tracks leading to beaches, while those who would rather stay in can be treated with private in-villa massages and beauty treatments.
- Little Tom’s Cottage – This is a rustic hideaway at its finest, the perfect choice for escaping from real life and finding romance in a hidden, gorgeous little valley. This cottage overlooks the Tuki Tuki river, with great views of Te Mata Peak in the distance; it has wooden decks and a secluded open-air bathtub, perfect for a leisurely and atmospheric soak. The cottage is within easy reach of the famous Hawke’s Bay vineyards, so a wine tasting or two is certainly in order; just twenty minutes away you’ll find the pristine beaches of Waimarama and Ocean Beach.
