If you’re looking for a proper safari holiday, give this new resort a try. Lamai Serengeti is an brand new camp which opened in the northern Serengeti in June this year; trust us when we tell you it will be an absolutely amazing experience for a holiday or a honeymoon. Lauded as one of the best camp locations in the Serengeti, it offers absolutely stunning views over the plains, though we’d recommend you skip them from May to June when the grass will be a bit too high to see properly.
The camp is also just perfect for the Wildebeest Migration – it’s located just a short distance from where the wildebeest cross the Mara River.
Lamai Serengeti offers a completely new level of luxury – fixed canvas tents with gorgeous views, which aren’t easy to find in the Serengeti. Most lodges you’ll stay in are either standard hotel style brick buildings or completely “roughing it” tents complete with “long drop” toilets – not an experience you’ll seek for a romantic holiday or a true luxury holiday. With just 12 luxury tented suites covering two camps, the aim is to fit in perfectly with the camp’s surroundings so guests feel nature all around them – to see the extent of the wildlife but without being seen by the animals come to roam. The suites have been designed to blend in, so someone who wasn’t looking for them wouldn’t even notice their presence.
Each camp has its own private bar and dining area, with adjoining library and map room – and its own natural rock swimming pool. All have ensuite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, flush toilets and indoor and outdoor showers. Included and extra activities include game drives, guided walks, bush picnics and sundowners.
Lamai Serengeti is a fabulous choice to visit throughout most of the year. While the migration takes place in July and August, the game changes over the rest of the year, and you may find yourself viewing the big cats or watching a majestic elephant stride right by. While the camp is open, it is a magical experience. The only time the camp is closed from the end of March to the end of May to avoid the rains – otherwise, you’ll be sure to find lots of wildlife.
