North Island has shot into the spotlight this year due to the newest royal couple, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, spending their 10 day honeymoon there. This island paradise in the Seychelles is the ideal choice for a truly luxurious honeymoon; specialising in personal attention to each guest, Robinson Crusoe style privacy (even when you don’t rent out the whole island like Prince William and Kate Middleton did), and a conservative attitude towards nature, North Island is the choice of the stars for a reason. There are few lovelier places on earth and catching sea turtles laying eggs in the midst of a romantic walk on the beach is simply an unforgettable experience.

north island 4North Island is designed to bring you closer to nature while embracing the privacy, peace, and seclusion that a truly luxurious destination embodies. The spaces within the resort are designed to blur the boundaries between inside and outside, with villas from 450 to 870 square metres and one large plunge pool each. Each villa also has two bedrooms, allowing for four people per villa; for couples, the second villa doubles as an entertainment room with a private cinema. All drinks are included except for champagne and reserve list wines, along with all meals, which you can have either in your villa, on the beach, or elsewhere. While there is a set menu each day, you are invited to ask for whatever you please and to have your meals customised to your specific requirements. The villas all have their own butler and beach buggy for ease of travel; while there you can go blue water fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, mountain biking, and kayaking.

North Island is also a nature sanctuary. They’ve aimed to turn the environmental clock back 200 years by reintroducing 10 endemic species such as the rare Seychelles Kestrel and the Seychelles Sunbird. They are propagating 90,000 new native seedlings in the nursery and have already planted 55,000, ensuring that you’ll be getting a true taste of the natural Seychelles. 22 Giant Tortoises call North Island home and catching them laying eggs is, as mentioned, indescribably amazing.

north island 5Most people stay at North Island for 8 days, while the longest stay is up to three weeks. Once, someone actually brought their own submarine to stay – the most unusual visit ever at North Island! What’s important to note is that North Island is not a bells-and-gold dress-for-dinner opulent kind of luxury. You’re not expected to wear an Armani suit to dinner each night. It’s very laid back and casual – everyone is welcome to go to dinner in bare feet, short, and a t-shirt. It best suits guests who are comfortable with who they are – which makes it perfect for honeymooners who genuinely aren’t interested in anyone else but one another, at least for the space of two weeks.

Best of all, if you stay six nights at North Island, you’ll get a seventh night absolutely free if you travel before 15 December 2011. So you can stay seven nights for the price of six or, better yet, twelve nights for the price of ten. For more details, please do give us a call on 01494 678 400!
