At 6.38am on the 14th November 2012, all those visiting the Port Douglas region of Australia will be in the prime viewing spot for a Total Solar Eclipse. Sections of local beaches will be booked out for private parties, but the majority will be open to the public, to experience together this fantastic natural phenomenon.

The excitement is already rising in the Port Douglas region and preparations are underway for fun and festivities to support the Eclipse. The Eclipse Festival promises to be a fabulous celebration of local culture and produce, entertaining the influx of visitors throughout the week leading up to the event itself. Join in the celebrations and experience the world’s first playing of ‘Fooket’ a mixture of football and cricket played simultaneously on the same ground – that’s something we’d like to see! There will also be nightly food markets and endless entertainment including a play staged at the local Clink theatre.

Additional to this extensive social calendar is something for those looking for more of a physical challenge, the 2012 Solar Eclipse Marathon. The runners will start not to the conventional gunshot but to an intergalactic starting gun – as the first rays of sunshine emerge from behind the moon.

The weather will be warm and the skies blue…a truly wonderful time of year to escape the British winter in search of sunshine and a once in a lifetime experience in the land down under.
