Introducing the wonderful Max Webb, Owner and Founder of Rugbytots, who recently visited our great friends at The Residence Mauritius with his family. Set on the glorious east coast of Mauritius on a magnificent stretch of white sandy beach, the resort is perfectly equipped for families of all ages. From interconnecting rooms, 24 hour butler service, on site kids club (3-12 years), activities for teenagers, nannies on request and daily afternoon treats for all, rest assured you can rest and relax knowing that the whole family will be kept busy and entertained. Official Rugbytots on tour, whilst Max was at The Residence, he undertook the challenge of coaching the children (from tots to adults!) staying at the hotel and train Teddy, one of the activity team members on how to be an official Rugbytots coach! We caught up with Max when he got home to find out all the details…
1 – Please could you tell us a little bit about Rugbytots, and how it all began?
Rugbytots really came out of my own requirement to get my three boys involved in Rugby. Every other sport and activity were on offer for pre-schoolers and as a player and huge fan of the game I was frustrated that they couldn’t be part of a similar environment but utilising the multiple skills and fantastic values associated with Rugby. So in 2006 we started our first class for friends and family. Having experienced many play programmes I was determined Rugbytots would be packed full of energy, enthusiasm, humour, imagination, with the ultimate aim of building confidence in a fun environment. Our classes have an educational side as well as teaching the core skills. We like parents to get involved and join the fun too. After spending 16 years in the corporate world Rugbytots is an absolute dream to be part of and I am immensely proud to have such a fantastic group of people involved, now operating in 14 countries throughout the world.
2 – We are so delighted to help you take Rugbytots ‘on tour’ with you and your family to Mauritius, have you done anything like this before?
I have taken Rugbytots to many countries however this was a first! Being in such an amazing hotel and delivering sessions on the beach with my three boys really was a dream come true. I think my wife enjoyed the peace as well!
3 – The Residence Mauritius is a key partner of ours, Rugby aside, what did you think of the hotel and the staff?
Amazing! They were so friendly and welcoming and the location is stunning.
4 – Would you recommend the hotel to other families looking to go to Mauritius?
Already have done, it’s a fantastic destination. The kids club is superb and the activities around the hotel are great.
5 – Did you feel there was lots of interest from families staying at the resort to take part in your classes?
Yes the average age was slightly older than our normal classes but we had a great time and the feedback from parents and children was fantastic. I always coach with a fun first approach, children learn more in an environment they are enjoying and we had some fantastic skills on display, embarrassing the dads at certain times!
6 – We understand Teddy in particular took to Rugbytots very well and is now qualified to teach classes to guests at The Residence?
Yes that’s correct, Teddy is fantastic, he has bags of energy and enthusiasm, exactly what all our coaches need. We spent two weeks training Teddy and he is now in possession of the full Rugbytots programme, he will be great.
7 – Finally, where next with Rugbytots on tour?!
Good question!? We have talked about Grenada as the wide sandy beaches lend themselves well to playing rugby on the beach…..watch this space….!!
