Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives
THE FIRST AUTHENTIC INDIAN SPA OUTSIDE INDIA
Latitude 03°00’N Longitude 73°00’E
The Maldives, southwest of Sri Lanka.
WHY IS IT UNIQUE?
The Taj Exotica Resort & Spa enjoys several delicious one-offs: its fine dining concept, CuisinArt, means guests can meet the chef to create their own bespoke menus. The Taj Spa, which is on a private island sanctuary, is the first authentic Indian Spa outside India and is a member of the Leading Spas of the World. It is also one of only a few spas in the world to offer Alepa therapy, which draws directly on ancient Indian bathing rituals. Guests begin by relaxing in the hammam, before applying therapeutic mud preparations to the skin. The resort’s remodelled accommodation promises complete privacy – choose from spacious Maldivian-style palm-thatched villas or indulge in the magnificent Rehendi Presidential Suite.
BEST TIME TO GO?
The brightest time is generally from January to March, when rainfall is at its lowest and temperatures are at their highest.
BEST ROOM IN THE HOUSE?
The Rehendi Presidential Suite, which has the feel of a completely self-contained private residence and boasts 450 sq metres, comprising a living room, master bedroom with his and hers bathrooms, a guestroom and an expansive sun deck with two salas for relaxing and dining. The 60 sq metre infinity pool perches on stilts over the water and offers superb views – as does the glass-walled bathroom.
