Mauritius, surrounded by the world’s largest unbroken reef, is a cocoon of pure pampering pleasure. Whether your idea of paradise is lying out on a powder-white sandy beach or indulging in a romantic couple’s massage, my personal idea of paradise is luxuriating in a seriously deep “bubble” bath (of the French-bottled variety!).

Having had the pleasure of carrying out my own personal tour of the “best baths in Mauritius”, on a recent trip to the sanctuary that is the Indian Ocean, I took my crisp, white dressing gown off, turned the taps on full blast and sunk straight in – all in the name of research!

Here are my three favourite baths – for him, her or sharing – but always best with a glass of bubbly in hand.

Located in a secluded section of the Four Seasons Resort at Anahita, my beautiful Beach Villa with its private plunge pool, garden and beach front location was also home to the largest bathroom I have ever seen. “Where to wash first?” was the dilemma of the day. If staying at the brand new St Regis Hotel, your own personal butler will contact you ahead of your arrival to discuss your welcome drink preferences & any romantic touches & treats that you (that is code for your other half) might like to book. I stayed in a Deluxe Ocean Room, a beautifully appointed, generously sized room with an open window into the bathroom. Here, your butler is happy to arrange a romantic rose petal bath for two & even unpack your toiletries. There is something indulgent about bathing without your feet touching the other end of the enormous tub & there is certainly room for two with neither of you having to endure the dreaded “tap ends” as the taps are strategically placed in the centre of the oval, egg-shaped bath.outdoor cascade…or the oversized tub stood winking at me in the middle of my bathroom retreat?  I opted for my post-spa (the only overwater spa in Mauritius) wash down in the garden shower, re-enacting a Herbal Essences’ advert & then my post-dinner chill out session in the deep-soaking tub.  Pure bath-time bliss.

The Oberoi Mauritius

My final favourite soak was in the relaxing refuge that was my Luxury Pavilion at The Oberoi, looking out onto my own private walled-courtyard. Here, the sunken marble bath was a thing of beauty in itself & it is where I decided to treat myself to two cheeky baths in the same night (they did replace my bath salts during the turn-down service so I thought it rude not to!). The Oberoi also provided me with a gorgeous scented candle & matches to add to the atmosphere and this, followed by a candle-lit dinner under the stars & breakfast curled up in bed, was a truly tranquil treat.
